The Race
The NSK Weg Utrecht runs inside the Maliebaanloop, organised by AV Phoenix, and it isn't a straight line from A to B. Everyone races the same 2.5 km circuit: a short there-and-back stretch of the Maliebaan toward Burgemeester Reigerstraat first, then west along the Maliesingel past Park Lepelenburg and into the streets around Nieuwegracht, looping south past Herenstraat, Schalkwijkstraat, Zuilenstraat, Keukenstraat and Magdalenastraat before doubling back north through the park to the Maliebaan for home. The 5K covers it twice. The 10K covers it four times.
The NSK titles are reserved for enrolled students who can show proof of registration. The Maliebaanloop's own 5 and 10K "prestatieloop" categories are open to anyone, so the field is a mix of national student champions and local club runners on the exact same course.
The Runnersworld start arch sits on one of Utrecht's grandest tree-lined avenues. Every lap begins and ends at the same spot, so it doubles as the busiest cheering point on the course.
The course skirts this small park on the old city bastion where the Maliebaan meets the Maliesingel, once heading out into the big loop south and again on the way back to the finish.
Before heading into the main loop, the course darts east along the Maliebaan toward Burgemeester Reigerstraat and straight back. It's the one short stretch you'll run in both directions.

Yes. The NSK titles are for students, but the Maliebaanloop's own 5 and 10K categories run the identical course and are open to anyone. The route and poster work the same regardless of which start you lined up in.
We agreed it directly with the organising committee. The individual winner, man and woman, of the NSK 5K and NSK 10K each get a voucher for a free custom poster of their race. The runners finishing second and third in each of those four categories, twelve people in total, get an A3 upgrade on their print. It's a small thank-you from us for hosting a race worth mapping, not something you need to enter to use the editor.
Utrecht is flat, so there's little elevation to color by, but pace coloring can still be worth using here: with several laps stacked on the same streets, a pace gradient makes it easy to spot whether your last lap was your fastest or your slowest.
