Lots of runners pick Valencia for one reason: it is flat, it is fast, and December weather on the Spanish coast is kind to a marathon. If that plan worked out for you, the last few hundred metres on the blue carpet at the City of Arts and Sciences are probably still in your head. Connect Strava or drop in your GPX file and turn the line you actually ran into a poster with your name and finish time on it.

Someone close to you flew to Spain in December to chase a time, and maybe you stood near the finish waiting for them. A poster of their own route with the time printed underneath is a better reminder of that weekend than another medal on a hook. It also lands nicely under the Christmas tree, a few weeks after the race.
“MyAdventureMaps is perfect for anyone looking to create a print from their Strava data, which is something I like to do following a big race. I used it to create a poster for the Great Welsh Marathon. I've used similar tools/services in the past, but most are overpriced or they're free but so limited that you can't really create what you want. MyAdventureMaps seems to be the best option out there at the moment. Highly recomended.”

The course
Valencia has built a reputation as one of the quickest marathons on the planet. The course is close to pancake flat, the race is held on the first Sunday of December when it is usually cool and dry, and the city puts real effort into the event. Plenty of runners book it as the last big target of their season, and a lot of them go home with a new personal best.
Elite results here rank among the fastest ever run, and the same flat roads help everyone further back too. If you came for a PB, this is about as good a chance as you will get.
Start and finish sit among the white, futuristic buildings of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias. It makes for a striking backdrop at both ends of the day.
The final stretch is a blue carpet laid out over the water at the complex. Most finishers can describe it in detail years later.
The route takes you through the historic centre and around the green belt of the Turia gardens, the old riverbed that now runs through the city as a park.
Valencia is hugely popular with Dutch and Belgian runners, so you will hear plenty of Dutch along the course and in the hotels on race weekend.
The poster is drawn from your own watch data, so it shows the line you ran, including that detour to the water station, with your time beneath it.
Design tips
On a hilly course, coloring the route by elevation tells the story. Valencia has almost no climbing, so that option will look flat (because it is). Coloring by speed works much better here: you can see where you sat on your goal pace and where you found something extra in the final kilometres.
Put the finish time on the first text line and use the second for something only you would understand: the time you were chasing, the name of the friend who paced you, or just "PB". A big, bold title in a single color keeps the print calm enough to hang in a living room.
The map style matters too. A light gray background makes the route stand out, while a satellite or colorful style shows more of the coastline and the Turia gardens around your line.
Three steps
Open the editor with the Valencia course and styling already set. Keep the official route, or connect Strava and pick your own marathon run, or upload the GPX, TCX or FIT file from your watch.
Pick one of 12 map styles, set one route color or shade it by speed or heart rate, and type your name, time and title. The preview updates as you go.

Yes. The editor opens with the official Valencia course, title and colors ready, so you can make a poster straight away. Want your own GPS trace from race day instead? Connect Strava or upload the file from your watch and it replaces the course line.
Usually not. Small jumps in a city centre GPS trace are hardly visible at poster scale. If one section looks messy, our free route tools let you clean up or trim the file before you load it, or you can send it to us and we will take a look.
A single map works best for one city, since the routes need to sit in the same area to be readable. For several races in different cities, the easiest option is a separate poster per race in the same style, so they hang together as a set.
The race is early in December, which leaves a few weeks, but the holiday period is busy for printers and couriers. Order soon after the race to be safe. If time runs out, the digital download arrives straight away and makes a fine gift to print or frame later.
